  • Chavez and opposition closed in crucial parliamentary elections campaign

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Thursday promised a victory by "knockout" in the parliamentary elections Sunday, which aims to maintain its dominance in Parliament, while the opposition called on its season finale to vote massively for a counterweight to the government.
"Five years ago, withdrew at the last minute. If you want to do the same but we're going to beat up these emaciated (derogatory term used to refer to the opposition), traitors, corrupt, shameless, subordinate to the U.S. empire. Here are the Chavez candidates. Those who want to come home with Chavez, "he said in one of his last campaign stops in the state of Carabobo.
The head of state referred to previous elections where the opposition decided not to participate, which left out of Parliament until today.
The heavyweights of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, led by Chávez, participated Thursday in the final campaign events in major cities.
Cries of "Uh, ah, Chavez will not be" more typical of a presidential election were heard strongly in the finale.
Dressed in red and uploaded to a truck, the Venezuelan leader, who maintains a strong popular almost 12 years after coming to power, was the driver of this election campaign, during which he has toured the country accompanied by candidates .
On Sunday, Venezuelans will elect 165 new deputies to the National Assembly (unicameral Parliament), which since 2005 is dominated overwhelmingly by the ruling.
For Bush, a win is crucial to further advance the transition "to socialism" and the deepening of his Bolivarian revolution.
"We have clear where to go and nobody and nothing will stop us," assured Chavez said Thursday.
According to recent polls, the PSUV would be about 52% of voting intentions, which would give the ruling party two-thirds of the seats, due to the proportional system in force.
There are other surveys that indicate an intention to vote almost equally between the other forces and Chavez does not.
Faced with the impressive resources of the ruling, pro-Chavez political forces held not discrete closures campaigns in various cities.
United in the call Bureau of Democratic Unity, a group of opposition parties hope to return with force to the National Assembly on Sunday to curb the president's political projects.
"As of September 26 starts the countdown to the change in the country," said the opposition candidate Richard White.
The campaign of the president's critics have been door to door, convincing the citizens of the need for a plural Parliament and stressing the "ineffectiveness" of the government and the deputies present at the time to answer the most pressing problems society, such as inflation or escalating violence.
"Our deputies are not going to stop doing his duty to represent all Venezuelans, not going to stop controlling the Executive, on Thursday assured Ramon Guillermo Aveledo, coordinator of the Bureau of the unit.

  • Obama calls on Israel to extend the ban on settlements

Given the notable absence of the General Assembly hall of the UN to the Israeli delegation, justified by the conclusion of a Jewish religious party, Barack Obama today called on the international community a collective effort to facilitate a peace agreement between the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority, a sovereign independent Palestinian state living in peace with a Jewish state recognized by the Arab countries.
Never before has a U.S. president had defended with so much emphasis on this forum, the annual occasion in which he speaks directly to the world-the need for a solution to the core conflict in the Middle East, including the rights of the Palestinians. Obama has spent more than a third of his speech to advocate for this cause, which has become the most important of his foreign policy, ahead or alongside the fight against terrorism.
It urged all governments represented at the session to "translate into action" his frequent words of sympathy with either side. Those who claim to support Israel, "must understand that true security of the Jewish state requires an independent Palestine, one that enables the Palestinian people live in dignity and opportunity." Those who claim to support the Palestinians, "have to understand that the rights of the people will only be obtained by peaceful means, including a sincere reconciliation with a secure State of Israel."
This offset, probably essential for a president who is acting as a mediator of complex negotiations in which very little trust, are, however, rare in the traditional language used in the relations between the U.S. and its closest ally in the world: Israel .
Although that is not the reason for the absence of the Israeli delegates, they were spared, thanks to its religious celebration, to hear a speech that probably will not satisfy the prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Among other things, because Obama has insisted that his government "should extend the moratorium on settlement building" Jews on Palestinian land.
Obama also strongly defended Israel's right to its existence and its "legitimacy as historical homeland of the Jews" and has warned that those who do not recognize "will face insurmountable opposition from the United States." "Threatening or kill Israelis used to help the Palestinians. The murder of innocent Israelis is not resistance, it is injustice. Make no mistake: the value of a man like President Abbas [Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority], which defends his people against the world in very difficult circumstances, is much greater than the rockets that shoot innocent women and children, "said Obama at a forum in which they are often more applauded the praise that the latter first.
The U.S. president has admitted that recently started negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis will be very difficult. He understood the cynics who, after many failed attempts, are resigned to the status quo. But he warned that, if he really believes in the rights that are screened routinely year after year in this House, we must succeed this time. "Without a settlement," he said, "Palestinians will never know the pride and dignity of their own state, and Israelis will never know the security and peace to live with stable and sovereign neighbors committed to coexistence" .
The main effort, he added, they must do the two parties involved in the negotiations. But other countries can help decisively, especially the Arabs, "who should take this opportunity to take tangible steps towards normalization with Israel."
"If we do," he predicted Obama, "when we return here next year, we have an agreement to admit a new member of the United Nations, an independent and sovereign Palestinian state living in peace with Israel."
That would, of course, the apotheosis of Obama's foreign policy, now under the tough challenge of translating into reality the great hopes raised by his rise to power. The Obama that has been at the UN today is a president seriously marked by difficulties with more modest domestic and international goals. Has left, however, traces of the peculiarity of its management and its personality in his defense of civil society as a vehicle of democracy and equitable development and freedom.

The railway traffic was resting on two-thirds, like the Metro, bus and tram service in Paris and many cities. In the Paris airports Roissy and Orly fell out half of the flights.
In many areas the government sought to play down the significance of the actions. It is found, the unions that half of all teachers had not attended the classes, while the Ministry of Education wanted to give only one strike participation of 25 percent. In health care, many doctors and nurses have participated officially on strike, but still - come to work, the sick not to let them down - with an armband and is labeled "strikers."

During the last day of action on 7 September in nearly 200 cities has been demonstrated, it was 230th this time Particularly powerful in the morning was the demonstration in Marseille. In Paris was demonstrated in the afternoon. Here, the leader of the largest unions walked together to the tip of the protest campaign. They call unanimously by the government to withdraw the pension reform in its current form. Into new negotiations with the unions are also to opposition parties and civil associations are included.

Was the chairman of the Communist Party, Pierre Laurent, contrary to a statement: "On the social war conducted against us, we responded with a huge fraternal and united mobilization. The street has spoken and is in agreement. The government has lost the battle for public opinion. "Even the leader of the Socialists, Martine Aubry, was convinced in a statement that there are still given the time and opportunity for a reversal. That the pension reform bill has already been through the National Assembly, the first chamber of Parliament, has been confirmed and awaits the vote in the Senate in early October, was no reason for resignation.
France currently has with 60 years in the EU, the lowest retirement age. The full pension is paid but only after a review period of 40.5 years, but is also the deadline be extended.
